Our humble beginnings...

THE GARAGE

"Free Range Chickens" Yeah… You read it right. I called myself Free Range Chickens Manufacturing. Just one guy in a 400 sq ft shop, sometimes referred to as a double car garage. Working 24/7 with my wife Rhoda handling the finances, somehow we cut glued and nailed our way into the local furniture market.

Having some success selling our self designed product to local furniture retailers, and a good response from a couple of small trade shows, we decided to hire someone to help us, our first employee. We called him Little Chicken... I was the Big Chicken. I'm sure you can imagine that our 400 sq ft garage got small fast and we knew we had to move but where.

THE BARN

Okay… now we're really in business! This was a big move … 2000 square feet on the main floor and a 2000 square feet of loft. It came fully equipped with giant cobwebs, 7 chickens, 2 ponies, 2 goats and a very friendly pot bellied pig. You see … we shared the barn with a petting zoo, and we fit right in. If we needed to build heavily distressed looking furniture … we could just let the goats play with it! Well, time for a business loan and some new equipment... the banks said NO.... but the Power Tool Clicnic in Langley said YES... and we grew!

Our furniture definitely had character…more and more stores began to carry our furniture. We were featured in local show homes…which got us rethinking our name. Cute…but maybe not so professional.

I started to think about a place I the Columbia Valley where a creek flowed down the hillside, trickling through the round rock that covered the creek bed. It was a place that always made me feel good, a place of inspiration…a place I called "pebblecreek".

OUR FIRST FACTORY

Our First Factory Yep! We had our new name, 8 employees and an uncontrollable urge to move to the next level. Now supplying most of the major furniture retailers in the Lower Mainland, Okanagan and Alberta, our lovable spacious barn seemed to shrink and yes you guessed it... we decided it was time to get a real factory! Pebblecreek the woodshop…had now become The Pebblecreek Furniture Factory Inc.! Well... luck was on our side again... we found 8000 square foot building in Langley and the nicest landlord we've ever met who believed in us which made us feel better, because every bank in town had just explained to us again why we weren't worth the risk of helping. Fair enough, we could take the hint! So we worked endless hours and building our crew to 12 people…we soon became known in the manufacturing industry. Yes, we had a lot to learn, but we were eager to try.

In October of 2006 the decision was made to break away from the retailers who carried our line of furniture and head out on our own! Our original idea was to open one Pebblecreek Design store…until…a display that we had at the February 2007 Home and Garden Show won us the attention of an editor at the Vancouver Sun Paper. On top of all that commotion…we ended up winning Best Large Booth! After so many years of hard work (for myself, my wife and our devoted employees)…our dreams began to unfold! The following day our phone never stopped ringing! I had mentioned in the interview that we had given franchising some thought…we had many people enquire. We decided to choose the most suitable people…and voila…we are in the franchise business! Pebblecreek Design outlets are opening all over the lower mainland. And yes…you guessed it…our beautiful 8000 square foot factory just got too small!

PEBBLECREEK'S NEW HOME

The new demand for our products urged us once again to step up to the plate and swing!!!  Our Head Office is located at 19130 24th Ave., South Surrey.  Our 14000 square foot factory and showroom is now our Home Sweet Home.  We have equipped ourselves with state of the art equipment, the same amazing original pebblecreek team of craftsmen ... with a few new additions ... and the pride and uniqueness that has brought us to this level!  We have never been supported by a financial institution...but have received overwhelming support from our close friends and family who believed in our dream.  Together ... we will design, build and deliver the best quality furniture that we can!!!  Our stores will welcome you with open arms and service with a smile.
